Can you take a plain old sewing needle in your carry on when flying domestically?

Posted on October 8th, 2009 by admin

I’m going on a trip to California, and I know there are different rules flying domestically than internationally. IE: You can have knitting needles if flying in country, can’t if flying to the UK. Can take certain kind of scissors domestically, not if going to Romania, etc.

I’m quilting a pillow top, and I was wondering if I could take a plain old needle in my carry on, during my trip. All I’ve found on the web is about knitting needles.

Yes, you may. Just put it in your wallet in a little piece of paper. I know it is hard to find, but in the past , I did find where embroidery and sewing needles are ok.

Crafts that only involve yarn?

Posted on October 6th, 2009 by admin

i need something to do. but the only thing that i have related to crafts is yarn. does anybody know anything that i could do with this? anything like weaving or sewing or crocheting or something along those lines that i could do with only yarn. other things that i do have would be glue scissors tape a stapler a glue gun colored pencils markers crayons sharpies and pretty much the other usual stuff. Any ideas? Best answer is worth 10 points!

Thankss

Braided rugs for dollhouses. Honest. Take 3 long strands of yarn and braid them tightly so the braid is about 3′ long. Coil it up flat on the table, sewing it together (with needle and thread) as you go. To make an oval, start with a 1" straight piece of the braid, and coil around that. To make a round rug, start wrapping the coil at the very end of the braid.

What charity can I donate unused fabric to? Wovens, knits, prints, solids…?

Posted on October 6th, 2009 by admin

Please name specific charities. Goodwill and Salvation Army won’t accept. If you have a charity that will accept fabric I will need you to be able to provide a receipt for the donation and be able to pick up. I live in West Hollywood. Thanks :)

Anyone who teaches a sewing class. Schools are tax deductible.

Needles for vintage Necchi sewing machine?

Posted on October 2nd, 2009 by admin

I have a Necchi "serie Mira" sewing machine that needs a needle.
Where is a good place to buy that part, or is there a modern equivalent available?

Knitting…?

Posted on October 2nd, 2009 by admin

I’ve been knitting for a couple years and am currently working on a scraf well a few minutes I was working on it and saw a large hole a few roles down can this be fixed? what’s the best thing to do now??

Most likely, you need to rip the rows out down to the hole, then try to pick up the stitch. Just make sure when you put the stitches back on the needles that you don’t twist them. You can find lots of help on http://www.knittinghelp.com/ including some really great videos.
