The murder of Junko Furuta?

Posted on February 17th, 2010 by admin

Has any of you heard about it? What do you think?

Here’s the story: She was a Japanese girl, she was 16 when she got kidnapped in 1988. She was kidnapped by 4 boys from her school, and was held captive in one of them’s home. She was forced to impersonate as his girlfriend, and when she begged for help from the parents they ignored it because they were afraid of what might be done to them. She was held captive for 44 days during which she was raped over 400 times. She died because of the burns after they poured a flammable liquid on her and set her on fire. Here are some things that were done to her, and probably more, but these are known:

>Forced to call her parents and tell them she had run away
>Starved and malnutritioned
>Fed cockroaches to eat and urine to drink
>Forced to masturbate
>Forced to strip in front of others
>Burned with cigarette lighters
>Foreign objects inserted into her vagina/anus (for example, fireworks which were later set off)
>Face held against concrete ground and jumped on
>Hands tied to ceiling and body used as a punching bag
>Nose filled with so much blood that she can only breath through her mouth
>Dumbbells dropped onto her stomach
>Vomited when tried to drink water (her stomach couldn’t accept it)
>Tried to escape and punished by cigarette burning on arms
>Flammable liquid poured on her feet and legs, then lit on fire
>Bottle inserted into her anus, causing injury
>Unable to walk properly due to severe leg burns
>Beat with bamboo sticks
>Hands smashed by weights and fingernails cracked
>Beaten with golf club
>Cigarettes inserted into vagina
>Beaten with iron rods repeatedly
>Winter; forced outside to sleep in balcony
>Skewers of grilled chicken inserted into her vagina and anus, causing bleeding
>Hot wax dripped onto face
>Eyelids burned by cigarette lighter
>Stabbed with sewing needles in chest area
>Left nipple cut and destroyed with pliers
>Hot light bulb inserted into her vagina
>Heavy bleeding from vagina due to scissors insertion
>Unable to urinate properly
>Injuries were so severe that it took over an hour for her to crawl downstairs and use the bathroom
>Eardrums severely damaged
>Extreme reduced brain size
>Begged her torturers to "kill her and get it over with"

On January 1, 1989: Junko greeted the New Years Day alone.
Her body was mutilated so bad that she was unable to move from the ground. The four boys beat her mutilated body with an iron barbell, using a loss at the game of Mah-jongg as a pretext. She is profusely bleeding from her mouth and nose. They put a candle’s flame to her face and eyes.
Then, lighter fluid was poured onto her legs, arms, face and stomach, and then lit on fire. This final torture lasted for a time of two hours.

Junko Furuta died later that day, in pain and alone. The boys recieved 20 years of prisons each. Today, they are free men walking on the streets. There are rumours that apparently they’re proud of what they did.

A J-rock band Gazette wrote a tribute to her called ‘Taion.’

Picture of her if anyone’s interested.

The justice system is a joke, 20 years?

They should have got 440 days of torture then hanged.

My mom wants to start crocheting..any recommendations on what kind of needles to start with?

Posted on January 31st, 2010 by admin

I would like to buy her a kit or something and maybe a book with small projects like scarfs and stuff to get her started. I know there are bamboo and metal needles and I’m not really sure on sizes. Any recommendations to get her started?? Any good beginner books I could check out? Anything would help, I’m clueless.

IF you know what colors she likes, just spend some time at your local craft store. Find the little "learn to crochet" booklets (Ask for help finding them if you need to). Pick out one with a item or two in it that you think she would enjoy making, most have 4-6 patterns with complete details from start to finish. Then go buy the recommended yarn (in colors she would like) and hook size to make that pattern, plus the book of course. The book should tell you how much yarn is needed to complete the pattern, and because they are aimed at beginners the patterns are easy to follow. I would also get her a few extra hooks, sizes G/6-4.25mm, H/8-5.00mm & I/9-5.50mm are very common sizes used to make many things from baby booties to afghans, sweaters, scarfs etc. Buying this way instead of a kit means you can pick the pattern and yarn colors and I believe it is cheaper than a kit.

what is the best name brand of knitting needles?

Posted on January 25th, 2010 by admin

bamboo, plastic, or metal ??

That depends on you really ; it’s very much a personal preference. I really like bamboo because the stitches stay on the needles without sliding off. Fast knitters like metal like Turbo.

Are bamboo knitting needles flexible ?

Posted on January 7th, 2010 by admin

I need to find either "Bryspun" or another brand of flexible knitting needles.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks
I want straight needles. Not the circular ones.
Thanks, I found some "Susan Bates" flexible Crystalites. They work great & don’t strain my hands.

It depends on what you mean by flexible.

Bryspun are plastic straight needles and may bend slightly without breaking, but I wouldn’t call them flexible. Bamboo needles are about the same.

However, both kinds are produced in circular needle form which have firm points but a flexible cable in the middle that allow you to work in a circle.

What knitting needles are accepted for air travel?

Posted on December 29th, 2009 by admin

I really don’t want my project to be confiscated or to lose any needles. I know the simplest answer is to take cheap needles or a self addressed envelope to send things back to myself in case they are taken. I’d like to know if the TSA is more likely to take metal needles as opposed to acrylic or bamboo ones, or if length, etc. matters. I’m OK with knitting straight on circular needles if they are more likely to let me keep those.

I’ve read the TSA guidelines which say that it’s OK to take any type of knitting materials on board, but I know that it’s up to the TSA officer. Anybody with personal experience that can share?

My impression is that they prefer non-metallic ones. Someplace, I seem to recall, though I cannot find the page any longer, that they do not like circular knitting needles over a certain length (like long enough to wrap around someone’s neck to strangle them …)

Are rosewood knitting needles worth the price?

Posted on December 10th, 2009 by admin

I knit and crochet and love to use bamboo but am always curious what that ever so expensive rosewood knitting needle is like and would like to know if it is worth the price?

As with any wood after a time you may find there are slivers on them and sanding the needle won’t help too much. You should check with Joann.com they have sales on their bamboo and rosewood and that price be more in tune with what you want to pay. I use the metal ones and they are not that cold, only as cold as the room that you are in and your hand will warm them up more than were. My needles are over 30 years old and starting to loose the coloring on the tips and that is no problem at all.

Would a panda eat bamboo knitting needles?

Posted on November 12th, 2009 by admin

I have a lot of leftover bamboo knitting needles. Should I donate them to the zoo for the pandas?

Why not fashion them into improvised booby-traps for unsuspecting neighbours and cheeky kids. Inventive fun for the whole family.

Knitting- does anyone know a good interchangeable set of circular bamboo needles?

Posted on September 3rd, 2009 by admin

So far I’ve found rather limited sets of bamboo needles and many non-interchangeable sets. I’m hoping to find a set with needles size 5 to 15. I know I can find sets in non-bamboo, but I enjoy bamboo needles much more.

Wood needles split with interchangeable. I personally don’t use wood but Knit Picks has a set–Harmony Wood. It’s made with birth but not bamboo. A knitting friend swears by them. They cost about $70 for a complete set.

I like the old Knit Picks Options in metal. I’ve never had a problem with them and I use them for the Magic Loop method instead of DPNs.
