How do you sew crochet parts together?

Posted on August 19th, 2009 by admin

i’m new to crocheting and i’m making a lion. in the directions, i make different parts, such as the head, then the ears, the nose, eyes, etc. it says to sew part A to part B, but i’m not sure i know how to do that. like, do i just weave the tail of the yarn into the part it’s supposed to be attached to?

thanks.

If you are new to crochet you first of all should stick to simple patterns until you can get your gage consistent (your stitches). Now as for putting pieces together, on the wrong side go between stitches with a simple chain stitch or running chain stitch as some will suggest. Good luck to you.

Why do so many African American girls have weaves/ fake hair?

Posted on August 17th, 2009 by admin

I dont want to sound at all racist on this, but why do so many black girls have these weaves, yarn, and fake hair? Why can’t they just grow it out like everyone else? & ive seen a black girl with perfectly straightened hair, and it looked exactly like it would of she was white with straight hair.

Who knows, it seems to be in-style. But, granted, blacks in general tend to have abusive hair practices. The relaxers used to chemically straighten the hair is very harsh and it breaks it off. Then the braids can be too tight that it breaks off the hair. Blacks have the most fragile hair out of any other race and it can easily break off if not handled gently, which means it can’t be worn down a lot; most blacks don’t understand this. So, that girl who does have long hair you might never see it because she keeps it up in a bun or something and this helps it retain length.

There are very few blacks that you will see with naturally straight hair, so this girl that you saw with perfectly straightened hair is either flat ironing or chemically straightening, which is the same thing white girls do. Unfortunately, because of hair abuse and black hair being very fragile and easy to break you’re not going to see many blacks with extremely long waist-length or mid-back length hair. It’s not impossible, because those that do have extremely long hair know how to take care of it and understand that they can’t treat it harshly, but most blacks with hair that long are wearing a weave.

How do I crochet a blanket with 2 colors without afghan stitch?

Posted on August 15th, 2009 by admin

…or needing to weave in every color change? I’m planning on doing intarsia but I wanted to see if there’s anything I should know before I start. For example, since my pattern is pretty much a blue circle in the center of black, I’ll need to have 2 hanging balls of black on either side so I don’t have long strings of black yarn going across the circle in the back of the work. And I also don’t want to do the method that carries both yarns along – too much yarn would be wasted.

When you get ready to change colors, just be sure to twist or cross over the old color of yarn with the new color to make sure you don’t end up with holes where they shouldn’t be. Your balls of yarn may get tangled up a bit but there are tricks you can use to keep them from tangling. Some people use empty clean liter soda bottles, cut the bottoms off and run the yarn through the neck. I just take a few minutes as needed to untangle the mess
