How can I remove odor’s from a wool hand knit item?

I am a knitter and started smoking again. To keep the smoke smell out of my yarn I keep most of it in zip lock bags in the refrigerator or freezer. Now the yarn has the smell of refrigerator or freezer. I know I can wash the washable yarn but what can I do with the wool yarn?
put it in the dryer on low heat with a dryer sheet

You can wash the wool by using woolite, in very luke warm water. This should remove the odor and if it does not, spray the yarn with Frebreze or Odo Ban. Either product will work well.
Have you tried leaving the yarn out in fresh air? this could also remove the smell.

Don’t use woolite on natural animal fibers, it is too harsh especially for hand knits despite its claims
Fill a sink with lukewarm water (not cold, not hot) and a small amount of mild soap, I like using a squirt of ivory dish washing soap, the gently place it in the water, softly swirling it and squeezing it.
Then let the soapy water drain, and slowly fill back up with the same temperature of water. If the temperature is too different than the first batch of water it can cause felting.
Swish through clean water for a bit, still be slow and gentle, and repeat the process (without the soap) until the soap is gone.
Lift the yarn or garment out without squeezing the water out, and set it on some towels. Blot it with towels and let dry
