Is a St. John knits suit professional enough to wear to job interview?

Posted on July 30th, 2009 by admin

Is it professional enough or is this more for evening? 22 yr. old, graduating with Marketing degree this May, tons of job interviews. Anything from Management Consulting to Pharmaceutical Sales interviews. I have two Tahari’s and I like it; the St. John one seems a little more glam and is a knit, and stretches (does it look too much like sweater, or too casual, or too form fitting?)? Please only answer if you’re familiar with what I’m talking about :)
Oh yeah, it’s black, a skirt suit, jacket has one button, and the sleeves have 3 or 4 buttons (those fancy gold tone St. John buttons). More answers please!

St. John suits are fabulous, but I would save them until after you get the job. You want people to remember what will make you a great employee, rather than your suit. Having worked in finance for several years and been both an interviewer and interviewee, I recommend wearing your more conservative suits on interviews. Best of luck!

It depends on the style and color. If it is too tight and clingy, don’t wear it. Avoid a bright or light color. Your best best is a dark well tailored suit in a dark color.
