Economic Crisis 2009 - Stock up on Crafts, Sewing, Quilting Supplies - Learn and teach how to
Posted on September 3rd, 2009 by admin
Discussion explaining to people that they should stock up on craft supplies, sewing and quilting supplies so that they will have materials on hand to make their own clothes, blankets, household useful items. During the coming depression you are not going to be able to go out and buy many items. But if you have crafting supplies already on hand, then you can make your own items.
Some items I would have on hand:
Fabric (material)
thread
needles
sewing machine
batting
scissors
measuring tape or yard stick
buttons
elastic
zippers
snaps
cutting mat
rotary cutter
bias tape
ribbon
yarn
knitting needles
glue
glue sticks
glue gun
wood
tools
nails
screws
bolts
paint
stain
pillow stuffing
paint brushes
crochet thread
patterns for men, women and children in your family’s sizes
iron or press
If you folks have any other tips or items, please share them in the comments section

This is the unorthodox method I use for spinning worsted roving slivers into worsted yarn using a drop spindle. I hope that it may help beginning spinners by showing an alternative method to more traditional operations of spinning.
All Klassé needles go through 155 quality checks, earning the industry’s highest quality rating for: stability at high speeds, seam appearance, clean stitch holes, and precise and uniform stitchability. A unique curved design at the critical clearance-above-the-eye (CAE) stress point distributes pressure equally and makes Klassé needles much stronger than conventional flat CAE needles. When I posted about the amazing yarn I customized at Yarnia in Portland, OR, I got a lot of questions about plying yarn. At Yarnia the yarn is wound together from many “singles,” or individual strands of yarn to make up one unit, but the strands remain individual, making it a little more difficult to work with than plied yarn. I asked one of my professors, fibers artist Jerry Bleem, if he could teach my class how to ply yarn, or twist the singles together into a single strand, and in this video he does just that. Plied yarn is also much easier to work with on a knitting machine than non-plied yarn because there’s less of a chance of one of the individual fibers catching where it’s not supposed to. If you have a crafty question, send it on over to me at becky@craftzine.com for use in a future installment of Ask CRAFT!
